Title A name given to the resource Resurgimiento omagua / Etnocidio, etnogénesis y recurso cultural de un grupo invisible Description An account of the resource "Una cultura llamada “omagua”, entre otros nombres, fue descrita como una de las más numerosas del pasado amazónico en las primeras crónicas del descubrimiento europeo del Amazonas [siglo XVI y principios del XVII]. También aparecen, de forma más definida, en los diarios jesuíticos de las misiones de Maynas (de la segunda mitad del XVII a fines del XVIII). A pesar del impacto de estas reducciones y de la colonización europea, los ilustrados, viajeros, y funcionarios de los siglos XVIII y XIX aún citan a los omaguas o kambebas (su nombre en Brasil) como un grupo orgulloso, reminiscencia de su posición como “señores” del río. A principios del siglo XX, entre las décadas de 1930 y 1950, son registrados etnográficamente en Iquitos y alrededores (Perú), cuando se evidencia su marginación geográfica, disminución poblacional, y prácticamente extinción cultural. ¿Continúan existiendo a principios del siglo XXI? Una cultura amazónica elusiva y el misterio de la Aparia menor Description An account of the resource El primer cronista que documenta a los omaguas en la Amazonia es el dominico Gaspar de Carvajal en 1541. Las siguientes crónicas continúan citando un grupo con ciertas características (modelado craneal, túnicas de algodón, adornos de oro…), aunque con varias denominaciones y en lugares distintos, lo que dificulta su comprensión unitaria. En base a la revisión de crónicas del S. XVI a mediados del S. XVII, y de investigaciones modernas, se hace una aproximación crítica a una supuesta cultura omagua en territorio amazónico hoy principalmente peruano brasileño, con gran población y aspectos sociales de cacicazgo. En arqueología, los omaguas históricos han sido vinculados a la Fase Napo [parte de la Tradición Polícroma Amazónica], cuya extensión, a partir de las últimas investigaciones, es mayor a lo que se pensaba. Igualmente, se plantea la probable existencia de la capital de la Aparia menor, morada de un gran cacique, tal y como consta en las primeras crónicas.
