En ese ámbito, hay historias anteriores que son necesarias de recuperar, y una de ellas es la del surgimiento del Consejo Aguaruna y Huambisa [CAH] en los años 70 del siglo XX, en la Amazonía Peruana, en la provincia hoy llamada Condorcanqui, región Amazonas, que antiguamente era el distrito de El Cenepa solamente. El CAH, como organización liderada desde su fundación por Evaristo Nugkuag Ikanán, marcó una intensa historia, que no debe perderse y que hay que recuperar. Fue la lucha e impulso inicial, que continuó en construcciones organizacionales, a nivel nacional, a través de AIDESEP [Asociación Interétnica de Desarrollo de la Selva Peruana] y luego internacional mediante la Coordinadora de Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica [COICA]. Fue un inmenso y duro esfuerzo colectivo de autonomía y de afirmación de derechos de los pueblos indígenas.
