Estos cantos son una protección cantada para los bebés, cuyo espíritu es amenazados por los ngò̰o̰,  "espíritus que dañan el bienestar", ngaite,  "espíritus" y animales con pòra fuerte, tales como el ngurukù  [gallinazo], airú [perro],  áí [tigre] y woka [vaca].   Los arrullos wawae se cantan solo en inmediaciones del hogar y la chagra, o en espacios seguros como el seno materno, y exclusivamente de día,  pues de lo contrario, de cantarse en el monte o, en altas horas de la noche, el bebé corre peligro de ser "cutipado".  &#13;
Las grabaciones fueron hechas por el lingüista Alejandro Augusto Prieto Mendoza en el transcurso de su tesis doctoral sobre arrullos wawae magütá durante los años 2022-2025, en comunidades como Cushillococha (Ramón Castilla, Loreto, Perú) y otras del Perú</text>
